NATIONAL SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE

On July 28, 2002, the US Secretary of Education announced that schools singled out for national honors will now reflect the goals of our nation's new education reforms for high standards and accountability.

To reward these successful schools, the US Secretary of Education established the No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program to honor those elementary and secondary schools in the United States that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at very high levels.

St. Lawrence receiving 2006 Blue Ribbon Award

The No Child Left Behind—Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.

On November 9, 2006 St. Lawrence School received this prestigious award, which was presented in Washington, DC.   St. Lawrence was first nominated for this award based on academic excellence.   Academic excellence is determined by standardized test scores.  Student scores on ISTEP+ must be in the top 10% of the State in order to be nominated for the award.  Once it had been determined that St. Lawrence School qualified for nomination, an application was completed.  The application process took several months to complete and covered topics such as; attendance rate, test scores for all students, curriculum, extra-curricular opportunities, etc.

It has been an honor to be recognized as one of the best schools in the nation.  We will continue to strive for academic excellence and for meeting the needs of all of our students.
