GENERAL GUIDELINES
Any St. Lawrence student in the 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grades is eligible to participate in basketball provided they adhere to the following guidelines in the St Lawrence School Handbook.
All participating students are to display exemplary conduct and meet the following requirements:
¨ Be enrolled as a student at St. Lawrence School ¨ Meet academic and discipline eligibility ¨ Submit a current physical report ¨ Present proof of health insurance
5TH AND 6TH GRADE GUIDELINES
The 5th and 6th grade teams will be a learning experience for the student athletes in regard to basketball fundamentals.
5th and 6th graders will receive fair and equitable playing time based on attendance at games and practices, and behavior.
Teaching basketball fundamentals and skills will be the emphasis, not just wins and losses.
7TH AND 8TH GRADE GUIDELINES
The 7th and 8th grade basketball teams will continue to work on basketball skills and fundamentals.
The 7th and 8th grade basketball players will earn playing time based on ability, attendance, and attitude.
This will be a coach's decision.
The coaches will discuss and explain any rules with the parents before the season starts.
ACADEMIC GUIDELINES
Maintaining specific academic standards is a requirement to maintaining basketball eligibility.
The principal of St. Lawrence School will determine the eligibility standards required to participate in basketball.
This policy will be distributed by the principal.
SCHEDULES
Practice time will be established by the coaches with the 8th grade coach selecting first, then in descending order of grades with the process repeated until all practice times are filled.
Academics will take precedent over athletics.
Tournaments may be added to the schedule during the season.
Tournaments added to the schedule, excluding the Dearborn County Tournament, the Oldenburg Tournaments for the 7th and 8th grades, and the Deanery Tournament for the 8th grade boys, will fall under their own set of guidelines established by each individual coach.
These guidelines will be discussed at a team/parent meeting.
